Web 2.0 and Terms Defined

Web 2.0 was drastic shift from the originally created web 1.0 and revolutionized how digital information is created, shared, stored, distributed and manipulated. An average user was given the advantage to manipulating and interact with text, imagery, videos etc. This was a groundbreaking step towards the exponential growth of the worldwide web which we know of today.

Multiple users coming together and contributing towards the same content allowed for more meaningful and resourceful information to be developed. Rather than going through the process of purchasing expensive software, users could easily utilize web based application for a faster and more dynamic experience.

AJAX served as an acronym for "Asychronous JavaScript and XML", a technology which is used to create interactive web applications.

XML serves as an acronym for “Extensible Markup Language”, a programming code that preserves the structure and format of a digital document.

RSS serves as an acronym for "Real Simple Syndication", is a protocol that allows content to be delivered to the  user towards a subscription service.

Mashups is a term to define a website which holds a combination of content from more than just one source. Today these are most commonly referred to as blogs.

Tagging - Keyword descriptions which identify images or text as a category or topic, allowing users to search for similar content.

Cost Per Click- an internet marketing formula used to price online advertisements. The more clicks a specific add gets on a published page, advertisers will pay that specific publisher.

Interactive Advertising - Advertisers create ads that communicate a product or service within a user's daily routine. Advertisements find there way into all areas of a user's social media, daily new's articles, video and audio.
